Why Is Albert Einstein Famous?
Albert Einstein is famous for a number of reasons (two theories of relativity, nobel prize), but perhaps his most well known accomplishment is a very simple mathematical equation: e=mc^2. This is probably the most famous math equation ever written (except maybe 2+2=4); it is extremely simple to understand, yet the implications of it led directly to the atomic bomb and nuclear power.
The equation is actually energy = mass times the speed of light (c) squared. Since the speed of light is constant, and an extremely large number, this implies that a *vast* amount of energy can be created from very very little matter. In other words, you could power New York City for months from a gallon of water.
In addition to this equation, Albert Einstein also has a few well known quotes attributed to him.
“Things should be made as simple as possible, but not any simpler.”
“Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidty, and I’m not sure about the universe.”
“Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.”
“The only thing that interferes with my learning is my education.”

Hi my name is Fonda, according to my calculations the theory of e=mc^2 is not true because the square of a letter not a number is not possible to do because of the mathmeticions theary of “shai” shai is the way o calculating things.
My fish died today:(
Haha Fonda. Einstein’s formula is in algerbra. Letters are part of algebra as they subsitute numbers. So Einstein stands corrected.
UR WRONG HE IS RIGHT!!!! :@
hello i love science
Hello, my name is Gregory and I love science and mathematics. I just wanted to insist that my kitty died today:((( RIP
this is so cool.
The reason why he’s famous is much more contributed to the media and political reasons. Back then, the need to counter measuring Nazi and Communists strongly backed a scientist role model for the *western* society, and they chose Einstein becoz, 1st, he’s Jewish, 2. a noble prize winner, 3. an Nazi annex.
Certainly, he’s genius. But there are way a lot more geniuses and made much more great discoveries than his. But why ain’t they famous? first of all, lots of them worked for Nazi germany, eg. Heisenberg. No one gives a damn about someone who’s affiliated with Nazi so closely, despite IMHO Heisenberg is way more smarter than Einstein.
Some claim it’s due to his discovery.. which isn’t entirely true. His discovery was great, but the attention he received is beyond he deserved. Myself being a PHD in Physics can tell you that there are way more advanced theories developed by much smarter physicists yet they were dead without much publicity.
I can certainly give an analogy in computer science field, that Turing receives much more attention than Stephen Cook, despite the later gave the answer to the most difficult mathematical question of the century an answer while the former received all sorts of attention due to 2 main reasons: 1st, he invented 1st computer, 2ndly, that computer was used to decipher Nazi german’s code and help UK won the war.
This is why I certainly don’t like media very much, they speak of half truth, or distorted reality.
thanks!
I’m not a science nut, but i am an Einstein fan. Thanks for the post. Didnt know there were TWO theories of relativity?
